It’s perfectly normal to feel apprehensive about stairlift safety. After all, it’s not something the majority of us have ever sat on. However, there really is no need to be scared or worried about using one – they really are very easy to use and have a number of useful features;
Stairlift Safety belt
It’s important to always use your safety belt. Especially if you are prone to fainting or dizzy spells. They’re usually the same style as a car seatbelt so you should find them easy to clip in and out.
Toggles
At the end of each armrest, there is a toggle which you move in the direction of travel. Whether you are right or left-handed, it means multiple users can use your stairlift.
Remote controls
All our stairlifts come with two easy to use remote controls. One for the top and one for the bottom of the stairs. It means you can call for or send the lift to where it needs to be. For example, some customers have more than one user or they may walk up or down the stairs if they feel they safely can and only use the stairlift when then need to.
Safety sensors
All our stairlifts have safety sensors along the side and bottom of the footplate. If they detect a potential obstruction on the staircase, the power is automatically cut off.
Swivel seat
Once at the top of the stairs, you simply press a level either side of the seat. This releases a lock in the seat post and enables you to swivel the seat around and get off. Or you could pay extra for a powered swivel seat which means the seat will automatically turn at the top of the stairs for you to leave the stairlift comfortably. Whatever your choice, the seat locks into place meaning it is a useful safety barrier at the top of the stairs.
